What is Physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy is the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of a wide range of conditions, diseases and disorders. As a profession, physiotherapy aims to restore, maintain, and improve an individual’s mobility, function, and well-being. Treatment varies greatly from one patient to another but may include things like manual therapy, exercise prescription, modalities, and education.

What is Chiropractic Care?
Chiropractic care is a patient-centred, non-invasive, hands-on, regulated health care profession focused on your spine, muscles, joints, and nervous system. Benefits of chiropractic care include, decreased pain, increased range of motion, decreased muscle tension, increased strength, and preventative care.

Do I need a referral from my doctor to see a physiotherapist or chiropractor?
You do NOT require a doctor’s referral to see a physiotherapist or chiropractor. However, if you plan to use your extended health care benefits, we encourage you to review the details of your plan, as some insurance companies require a doctor’s referral before they will reimburse you.

Do you offer direct billing?
We offer direct billing to most insurance companies.

Is my appointment covered by OHIP?
Focused Care Physiotherapy & Wellness is a private clinic and does not provide OHIP covered services.

How long will my appointment take?
Assessments are typically 50-60 minutes in duration. Follow-up appointments are one-on-one with your physiotherapist or chiropractor, and are approximately 25-30 minutes in duration.

What should I bring with me to my first appointment?
- Any test results or medical documentation relevant to your condition.
- Your extended health benefits card. This will help us determine if we can offer direct billing to your insurance company.
- If you are seeking treatment as a result of a motor vehicle accident, we will require the following information: contact information for your case manager, your claim number, and extended health benefits information.

What will my first appointment entail?
During the initial assessment your Health Care Practitioner will start by asking you some questions to help further understand what is going on. After taking a history, your Health Care Practitioner will perform a physical assessment. Based on your subjective history, and the assessment findings, they will then provide treatment.

What should I wear to my appointment?
We recommend you wear clothing that is comfortable and easy to move around in. We also ask that you wear clothing that allows for your Health Care Practitioner to assess the area of concern i.e. wearing shorts or pants that roll up if you are seeking treatment for your knee.

Do you accept Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) and Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) patients?
We accept MVA patients but we are not currently accepting WSIB patients.

I’ve been quite dizzy or experiencing vertigo, should I drive to my appointment?
If you have been experiencing dizziness or vertigo, we recommend that you have someone accompany you to your first appointment.

Will my benefits cover my orthotics?
Many extended health care plans cover the cost of orthotics. However, we encourage you to review the details of your plan prior to booking, as some insurance companies require a requisition from your doctor before they will reimburse you.
