What is physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy is the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of a wide range of conditions, diseases and disorders. As a profession, physiotherapy aims to restore, maintain, and improve an individual’s mobility, function, and well-being. Treatment varies greatly from one patient to another but may include things like manual therapy, exercise prescription, modalities, and education.

Do I need a referral from my doctor?
You do NOT require a doctor’s referral to see a physiotherapist. However, if you plan to use your extended health care benefits, we encourage you to review the details of your plan, as some insurance companies require a doctor’s referral before they will reimburse you.
-
Do you offer direct billing?
We offer direct billing to most insurance companies.
-
Is my appointment covered by OHIP?
Focused Care Physiotherapy & Wellness is a private clinic and does not provide OHIP covered services.
-
How long will my appointment take?
Assessments are typically 50-60 minutes in duration. Follow-up appointments are one-on-one with your physiotherapist and are approximately 25-30 minutes in duration.
-
What should I bring with me to my first appointment?
- Any test results or medical documentation relevant to your condition.
- Your extended health benefits card. This will help us determine if we can offer direct billing to your insurance company.
- If you are seeking treatment as a result of a motor vehicle accident, we will require the following information: contact information for your case manager, your claim number, and extended health benefits information.
-
What will my first appointment entail?
During the initial assessment your physiotherapist will start by asking you some questions to help further understand what is going on. After taking a history, your physiotherapist will perform a physical assessment. Based on your subjective history, and the assessment findings, your physiotherapist will then provide treatment.
-
What should I wear to my appointment?
We recommend you wear clothing that is comfortable and easy to move around in. We also ask that you wear clothing that allows for your physiotherapist to assess the area of concern i.e. wearing shorts or pants that roll up if you are seeking treatment for your knee.
-
Do you accept Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) and Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) patients?
We accept MVA patients but we are not currently accepting WSIB patients.
