Certificate of Competency in Vestibular Rehabilitation
Colleen began her post-secondary education at the University of Waterloo, obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Honours Kinesiology. She then completed her Masters of Science in Physiotherapy at McMaster University in 2014.
Early in her career, Colleen worked primarily in the field of neurological rehabilitation. She treated individuals with Parkinson’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, brain injuries, and post stroke. However, over the past 8 years Colleen’s clinical focus has shifted more towards treating vestibular disorders, concussion, and temporomandibular dysfunction.
Colleen’s passion for vestibular, concussion, and temporomandibular rehabilitation stems from personal experience. Having sustained a concussion early in her career, and later suffering from benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, has given Colleen a unique insight into what her patients are confronted with. Personal experience, in combination with her strong belief in individualized and evidence-based care, fuels her enthusiasm for learning. Colleen has completed a multitude of post-graduate courses, and regularly attends conferences to ensure her treatment approach is representative of the latest research.
Colleen has received international training for treatment, and management of patients with temporomandibular and craniofacial dysfunctions and pain. She has completed both the CRAFTA-1, and CRAFTA-2 foundation courses through the Cranial Facial Therapy Academy (CRAFTA). In addition to attending numerous vestibular courses, Colleen has also obtained her Certificate of Competency in Vestibular Rehabilitation. She received this certificate by successfully completing all components of an intensive 6 day course at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. As research within the realm of concussion rehabilitation is constantly evolving, Colleen has participated in multiple post-graduate courses. Recently, she successfully completed the 60 hour Concussion Management course through the Complete Concussion Management Institute.
Outside of the clinic, Colleen has worked as a teaching assistant for an introductory Vestibular Rehabilitation course, as well as presented to the Brain Injury Association and the Parkinson’s Society. In her free time she enjoys mountain biking, hiking, and spending time with her family, friends, and her cat Moose!
