Custom Foot Orthotics
Did you know that feet are the foundation for all movement? The bones in our feet make up one quarter of all the bones in our body. There are also over 100 muscles, tendons and ligaments that pass through the foot. Your foot function dictates how efficient your body movements are.
Did you know that while walking, each step exerts a pressure on your foot that exceeds your body weight? And when you are running it can increase to 3-4 times your body weight? Our feet support and balance our body weight, therefore any dysfunction or misalignment in the foot can have poor consequences for other joints in the body.
The ancient Greek philosopher Socrates once claimed “when our feet hurt, we hurt all over”
Custom orthotics are a biomechanical medical device that maintain the normal positioning of the bones in the foot, the joints in the ankle and knees leading up to the hips and lower back. They look very similar to insoles, however they are custom made to address mechanical dysfunctions specific to each individual client.
Custom orthotics work by reducing stress and strain on your body by bringing your feet back into proper alignment. They also act as a “training device” that provides sensory feedback information to the muscles that help support the joints of the lower limbs to reduce muscle fatigue and promote more efficient muscle performance.
Why are Custom Made Orthotics Worth The Investment?
-
1. They are made specifically for your feet
Custom orthotics are made from a foam impression cast of your foot ensuring that their fit and support are tailored to your unique foot and gait for optimal comfort and biomechanics.
-
2. They are durable and long lasting
The high quality materials which custom orthotics are made from allow them to last longer than your typical over the counter orthotics.
-
3. Can Fit Various Types of Footwear
Custom made orthotics are designed to be able to fit in a wider range of footwear types compared to over the counter orthotics. Whether you want an orthotic for your dress shoe, running shoe, or sport cleat, there are many style options based on your personal preferences and biomechanical needs.
